WIKI Summary
This wiki has been set up to disseminate and share any resources, thoughts, weblinks, projects, ideas, best practice, etc, with anyone associated with HE and HE in FE. The idea is to use this as a one stop shop for anything associated with the wider remit of the personalisation agenda and widening particiaption in HE. To be fuilly inclusive I have also included a page dedicated to FE based digital Personal Learning Plans (PLP). Similar types of ePortfolios are also being utilised by work based learners (WBL) to record achievment and reflect upon progress.

A new HEA publication (Sept 2007) called Supporting Student eportfolios - A physical sciences practice guide - is out. I scanned through this the other day and it's a very good overview of current practice & tools. Well worth buying for anyone interested in this subject.

My blog post also references the
paper entitled " Beyond the Blog: getting the right level of structure in an ePortfolio to support learning"
This report recognises the importance of the Dearing recommendations and the use of a student progress file to record progress. This report also discusses alternative ways of assessing progress using eportfolios, and the emergence of ePDP and personal learning spaces. Read the full 68 page report here:

Thoughts & reflections
As a result of a West Midlands workshop (May 2007) I ran in conjunction with RSC East Midlands (Ben Williams), which was funded by the HEA (Ian Lindsay), I wrote some down my thoughts on the intrinsic differences between the FE requirements for a very prescriptive ILP and a much more "free form" reflective HE eportfolio. This short piece entitled "ePortfolios Vs eProgress" can be seen on my HE web site (news section) here > http://www.rsc-wm.ac.uk/?4776.
All presentations from that day can be accessed from the HEA (HE in FE) page here > http://www.engsc.ac.uk/nef/events/eportfolios23-05-07.asp
is the monlithic VLE now considered as just a museum for handouts? Personal learning spaces are the new prentender! Derek Morrisons Aricule blog discusses this rumour mill.

- A new inititive by Birmingham Adult Ed>>> “Funded by the European Social Fund, this initiative is testing since 2001 new ways of tackling discrimination and inequality experienced by those in work and those looking for a job.” This Digital CV project promotes the use of video CV's. The CV's were distributed on CD-ROM, but could quite easily be uploaded to a private shareable eportfolio. Perhaps they are already thinking along these lines? REDHALO!! This UK inititative is offering every British school child 1 GB of free, ultra secure, personal learning space that they can use for online collaboration. This is long overdue, but also paves the way for such a space to allow the storage of a personal eportfolio system!! Where are these spaces for all of our UK students? The LSC needs to make this happen for e-portfolios to really make an impact across all sectors. Becta called for this a few years ago! We are still waiting with baited breath. Apprarently the delay is connected with the issuing of a unique student ID number that will be utilised for all life long learning/CPD activities. www.redhalo.com
